The Lemon Juice Remedy for Arthritis

Somewhere down the road I am going to discover the ultimate cure for arthritis. And I suspect that it will be in the citrus family, lemon to be exact. Dr George D. Pamplona-Roger , Chair of the Department of Nutrition at Loma Linda University in California, writes in his text ‘Healthy Foods’ that “the most interesting components of lemons from a dietary and therapeutic standpoint are not its nutrients, but rather its so-called accompanying substances or phytochemicals. These are substances that lack any calories, and they are neither vitamins nor mineral salts, so they cannot be qualified as nutrients.”

His article has convinced me that lemon offers three secrets from your garden to your health; three types of phytochemicals that you would do well to learn about right now.

1. Organic acids such as citric acid, malic acid, and acetic acid. These acids help you to use up vitamin C, and kill germs in your body.

2. Flavonoids such as hesperidin and diosmin are found in the peel and pulp of lemon. These have antioxidantd properties, act to protect small blood vessels, and help to prevent cancer.

3. Terpenes, yea such a word has something to do with scent. Terpenes give citrus fruits their unique aroma. The most plentiful is d-limonene which fights poisons and cancer.

Lemon and the Uric Acid Connection

Lemon has many useful effects on the body but I am mostly interested in its action against arthritis.  Lemon is highly effective against uric acid which is constantly produced by the body; notice how uric acid reminds you of urine.  Correct.  It is passed out in the urine.  When uric acid is not removed by the body as quickly as it should then the excess is deposited in the joints causing arthritis and rheumatic pain, and can produce inflammation of the kidneys as well.

I have used lemon juice to treat arthritis with the formula being half of a lemon squeezed into a glass of water just before breakfast.  Within a few days I was pain free.  I mean pain free.  The cinnamon and honey cure does not come close.  A glass of water with lemon juice has produced for me the most rapid improvement I have experienced without the use of anti-inflammatory.

When lemon disappears from the market  I suffer and wait for the new season.

RTalloni: Limes have been substituted when lemon is out of season but I believe that lemon is superior.

rajan jolly: Thanks for the affirmative but remember the usual disclaimer that this is just for information and not approved by the FDA.

Funny, I was just reading about the link between mild acidosis and arthritis, and lemons are great in fighting acidosis.
